Core stability has long been a common standard of care for spinal conditions. Recent evidence has proven that core stability and training can assist in the prevention of common orthopedic extremity conditions as well as enhance neuromuscular extremity kinetic chain function. Despite overwhelming biomechanical and kinetic link evidence-based support, today’s extremity rehab programs still do not incorporate the entire kinetic chain. It is imperative, especially in today’s reimbursement model with higher patient payment responsibility, that clinicians incorporate the entire kinetic chain earlier in extremity rehab to facilitate an earlier neuromuscular effect and restore quicker and more optimal function of ADLs and a patient’s desired recreational activities.
Learning Objectives
- Apply the fundamentals of the core in structure and function
- Examine the anatomical link between the core and the extremities to enhance an earlier functional return to the patient’s desired occupations
- Analyze the connection of fascial tissue to the core and extremities to optimize human extremity movement
- Implement interactive corrective kinetic chain/core exercises for common orthopedic extremity conditions to incorporate in all phases of the rehab process

Chapters & learning objectives

1. The Anatomical Link: Core to Extremities
This chapter will introduce learners to research that has identified anatomical linkage between the core and extremity function, indicating that the core is not relevant solely to spinal conditions.

2. The Human Fascial System: More Than Just the White Stuff Between the Muscles
Anatomically, fascia has been demonstrated to link the upper and lower extremities, and the connective tissue is essential for efficient human movement. This chapter will explore these connections and how the fascia transmits force via its connection with underlying skeletal muscle.

3. Corrective Kinetic Chain/Core Exercises: How to Incorporate Into Practice for Common Ortho Conditions
A comprehensive rehab program needs to incorporate all the right components to ensure the fundamentals of motor control. This chapter will highlight an often-missing component in extremity rehab: core stability. Learners will leave this chapter with a strong understanding that core stability is necessary for extremity distal mobility.

4. Question and Answer Session
In this chapter, we'll review and answer the questions asked during the webinar.
